About Me
Ever since I can remember I have been drawing. My earliest childhood memory is sitting on the potty (for potty training) and my dad setting up a makeshift easel on a little wooden board so I would stay on it and draw for self-entertainment. I painted because that’s all I ever wanted to do without even knowing if I was any good. It just felt right. I lived, slept, and breathed art. It was my lifeline.
As with any dream, there are snags and roadblocks, and I hit my first one when I was applying for a very prestigious art school (that shall not be named). I got in based on my artwork, but when I came to sign up and they saw that my passport nationality had those three letters that they despised in the former USSR, they told me they were not interested in training talent for Israel. Needless to say, I had a nervous breakdown, broke all my paintbrushes, and vowed to never paint again. Until…
Some time passed, and reality set in, and I got a job as an artist. Mostly painting communist posters and signs, but it was work and it was art (ish). In my spare time, I would paint what I loved. People, places, things, anything that would infect my mind would explode on paper. My studio walls were lined with work. And then I got sick. By the time I got out of the hospital, my studio was emptied out and all my paintings were stolen.
Since then, life has thrashed me in many directions, but it could never shake my need to paint and finally, in my retirement years, I get to do what I love. My style stretches from realism and portraiture to abstracts and everything in between. It’s all about the moment. I hope you enjoy my work and feel free to contact me with any questions.
Yours Truly,
Susanna
“The one thing that you have that nobody else has is you. Your voice, your mind, your story, your vision. So write and draw and build and play and dance and live only as you can.”
